Yesterday was my 27th birthday.

Last night I dreamt I was dancing with Audrey Hepburn.

What a wonderful birthday present.

Dear friends,

The question I got most often after completing my Channel Swim was, "So, what are you doing next?" or "What's your next challenge?"

I've resolved to do a fund-raising event for charity every year, and I am pleased to announce the event for 2006: The Morocco Hitch.

In April, Xin Hui and I will be hitch-hiking to Morocco to raise funds for Link Community Development, a UK charity that works for the improvement of education in Southern and Eastern Africa.

Please consider donating to LCD. You can visit our website for more information, or go straight to the donation portal if you'd like to donate straightaway.

Just £5 could pay for education support workers to visit a school; just £10 could pay to train a teacher at an HIV/AIDS workshop or a literacy workshop, or buy a desk for a child who now studies on the floor.

Thank you so much!

It's that time of year- the air is thick with rejection letters.

I just got my first two... a possible nine more to go, but hopefully I will get less than that.

I commiserate with [info]latvianchick.

Now that you've told me what you think my good points are, go here to tell me what my bad points are (i.e., here's a chance to tell me what you really think of me!):

Taught my first class yesterday. Did okay. Wasn't fantastic. No life changing experiences. One compliment. One yawn. One student who stayed back to ask me questions. It'll go better next time. Still, I'm psyched. I loved it. Also, I'm a bona fide Oxford tutor now :)

After seeing this on [info]latvianchick's LJ, I decided I had to try this myself:

I posted this as a comment on [info]tristella's LJ but I thought I'd post it here as well:

At my last family gathering on my father's side, my aunties kept coming over holding the babies of my cousins and cackling, "So... your turn soon... this is in your future!"

They stopped that crap when I brought the urn with my father's ashes to them and said the same thing back to them.

(Just kidding. But I wanted to!)

Rules of the game:
1. Post 5 factoids about yourself
2. At the end, list the names of 5 people whom you want to do this next
3. Leave a comment "tagged!" in their blog and tell them to read your blog for rules.

(What is a factoid?)

Top 5 Factoids about P.J.:

1. Before P.J. was born there were only 24 letters in the alphabet.

2. P.J. is on a personal quest to make everyone wear proper hats again.

3. Fred Astaire isn't dead. He's just hiding from P.J.'s obsessive fandom.

4. When swimming the Channel, P.J. actually got lost and visited Belgium, Spain and Tanzania before finding France.

5. The movie "Kung Fu Hustle" is actually a dramatisation loosely based on P.J.'s life.

I can't be bothered to tag people... although I bet [info]moderntime would be come up with something terrific.

I've heard lots of great blonde jokes, but I have to admit this one is the best ever!

I second [info]moderntime's enthusiastic recommendation of this ILM thread, especially if you love old movies like we do. Is it scary that I immediately recognised 95% of those quotes?

Wow! Who'd've thought that archival research was so much fun? I could live in the National Archives at Kew for weeks!

Oh Great Cthulhu!

I have been an extremely busy devotee this year.

In February, I stopped [info]latvianchick from defiling Lovecraft's grave (-20 points). In August, I bombed a cultist gathering (-100 points). In May, I made a burnt offering to the Dead Dreamer (100 points). In July, I called down the wrath of Yog-Sothoth upon [info]tristella (65 points). In June, I visited my relatives in Innsmouth (100 points). Yesterday, I burnt my copy of the Necronomicon (-75 points).

In short, I have been very good (70 points) and deserve to be promoted to High Priest.

Your humble and obedient servant,

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Saturday I saved a busload of nuns in Angola (326 points). In September I farted in an elevator (-6 points). In June I ruled Iran as a kind and benevolent dictator (700 points). Last Wednesday I didn't flush (-1 points). In August I gave [info]tristella a kidney (1000 points).

Overall, I've been nice (2019 points). For Christmas I deserve an Easy-Bake Oven!

Sincerely,
pjthum

You're The Guns of August!

by Barbara Tuchman

Though you're interested in war, what you really want to know is what
causes war. You're out to expose imperialism, militarism, and nationalism for what they
really are. Nevertheless, you're always living in the past and have a hard time dealing
with what's going on today. You're also far more focused on Europe than anywhere else in
the world. A fitting motto for you might be "Guns do kill, but so can
diplomats."

the Wit

(73% dark, 26% spontaneous, 16% vulgar)

your humor style:
CLEAN | COMPLEX | DARK

You like things edgy, subtle, and smart. I guess that means you're probably an intellectual, but don't take that to mean you're pretentious. You realize 'dumb' can be witty--after all isn't that the Simpsons' philosophy?--but rudeness for its own sake, 'gross-out' humor and most other things found in a fraternity leave you totally flat.

I guess you just have a more cerebral approach than most. You have the perfect mindset for a joke writer or staff writer. Your sense of humor takes the most effort to appreciate, but it's also the best, in my opinion.

Also, you probably loved the Office. If you don't know what I'm talking about, check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/theoffice/.
